Dolby Atmos brings surround sound to a whole new level. Sound is no longer just around you, but above you as well. Imagine having the sensation to look up because you feel like you are in a forest hearing rain drops hitting the leaves. Or perhaps, sniper fire above your head seems real as you watch American Sniper. A movie to look out for this July is Mission Impossible 5, which will also be released with Dolby Atmos. How to upgrade your current:
7.1 Home Theater
You will need a receiver that is Dolby Atmos compatible. If you already have the Onkyo TX-NR636, TX-NR737 or the TX-838 receiver, then we can download a free firmware upgrade. Otherwise, you could purchase the Onkyo TX-NR1030 which has the Dolby Atmos included.
All that is needed to complete the system is to re-wire 2 of your current surround speakers to be designated as your Dolby Atmos Speakers.
9.1 Home Theater
You will need the TX-NR1030 or the TX-NR3030 which has the Dolby Atmos included.
To go from 7.1 to 9.1, you could purchase a pair of designated Onkyo SKH-410 Dolby Atmos Speakers. These are box speakers that sit in the front of your Home Theater and up-fire sound above you. Otherwise, if it is possible to add a pair of ceiling speakers, these could be used to give you a 9.1 Dolby Atmos Home Theater.
